There are three macromolecules that the body needs to break down during digestion for sources of nutrients for energy.
These macrocolecules are:
Proteins
Carbohydrates
Fats
Proteins
Proteins are found in:
Meats
Milk
Vegetables
Starches
Very very little protein is found in fruits
No protein is found in pure fats
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are found in three different forms: monosaccharide, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. Carbohydrates are
essential
to the body because they are the first substances used for energy.
Carbohydrates are found in:
glucose
fructose
galactose
sucrose
lactose
maltose
plants and dairy products
rice and potatoes
Fats
Fats are found in two different forms. They are:
saturated fats, which are found in a solid state at room temperature
unsaturated fats, which are liquid at room temperature.
There are two types of unsaturated fats; they are:monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats.
Fats are needed for insulation and protection of your muscles. Altogether, fats should comprise less than 30% of your diet.
