EATING DISORDERS



Eating disorders are hard to understand. It is not so much the disorder, but the reasons behind it.

Some have attributed eating disorders due to :
The three major eating disorders are:
  1. anorexia
  2. bulimia
  3. binge eating disorder




MIGHT YOU, OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE, HAVE AN EATING DISORDER?

Answer the following questions honestly. The following questions are derived from statements adapted from material developed by Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders, Inc.


Even though my doctor and my friends tell me I'm thin, I feel fat.

Other people worry about the way I eat; I lie about my eating.

I feel guilty when I eat.
YES NO

I have missed work or school because of my weight or eating habits.
YES NO

I do strange things with my food-for example, cut it into tiny pieces, eat it on special dishes with special utensils, make patterns on my plate with it, secretly spit it out.

To control my weight, I vomit, take laxatives or diuretics, or fast.
YES NO

I get anxious if I can't exercise.
YES NO

I have said or thought, "I would rather die than be fat".
YES NO

I have notice one or more of the following: irregular or absent menstrual periods, cold hands and feet, dry skin, thinning hair, fragile nails, swollen glands in my deck, dnetal cavities, dizziness, weakness, fainting, rapid or irregular heart beat.

If you answered yes to one of the statements, you may be on your way to developing a serious eating disorder. If you answered yes to two or more of the questions, you may have already developed an eating disorder. I URGE you to speak with a doctor, a dietician, a counselor, or someone that you trust.
